What is This Clonaid Sect?
1/15/2003
I was watching Dateline last night, and one of the feature stories was about how a religious sect called the Raelians believes that human cloning is the “key” to eternal life. The group, which has 55,000 followers worldwide, claims that their leader, Claude Vorilhon, who started the sect in 1990, visited an alien planet, where he saw Moses, Jesus and Elijah. He claims that they told him that in order to have eternal life, you must be cloned. Your thoughts, memories, and your personality must then be “uploaded” into your new adult body. Then, after you die, you will “wake up” in this new body. He also created a company, called ClonAid, which claims it has just created the first human clone. No scientific proof has yet been offered that the baby that they called Eve is indeed a clone. The company says that it will offer scientific proof within the next ten days. At that time, I will let you know what the verdict is. Click here to read more at MSNBC’s web site.
I found this very intriguing, but I must say that if eternal life is going to be some sort of “heaven on earth” in that our “personas” are going to live on as clones after we die, then that will not be a very pleasant “eternity”! After all, we will still be living on earth, with all of it’s sin, hardships, sadness, and everything else that the Bible says is non-existent in Heaven. And of course, the Raelians offer no explanation of what will happen to our souls. Also, who is going to be the judge of who gets to be cloned? Will everyone be offered the chance to participate in this so-called “eternity”? And what about all the millions of people who have already died, that never had the chance to be cloned? Those are just a few of the many flaws with this theory, and they prove that this theory is totally ludicrous!
