Trip to Atlas Missile Base

This morning I visited an Atlas Missile Base. It was one of the many bases used in the early 60’s, and their existence is one of the main reasons that the Russians feared us during the Cold War. The bases were shutdown in 1963. They were replaced by minutemen missiles soon after. Larry Sanders, a former employee of the Senate, is in the process of renovating an Atlas Missile Base in the Abilene area. His goal is to make it into a historic landmark that will be suitable for tourism. He plans to use it for catering events, and other parties. There are twelve missile bases around the Abilene Area, and only 72 missile bases are in existence. The base was very interesting, and I learned a lot about the Cold War.
