I turned 27 yesterday. My family took me to Spaghetti Warehouse for dinner. We had a great time, too. We would have had to wait for at least an hour at Red Lobster, or the Olive Garden, but at Spaghetti Warehouse we were able to sit right down. After dinner I went to see Curious George. It was a fun movie. Ordinarilly, I wouldn’t have been into something like that, but I grew up reading Curious George, and I am a nostalgic type of person. Tonight my best friends are treating me to dinner at Chilli’s. I haven’t been able to spend much time with them, because we always seem to be busy, so it will be nice.
I quit school last year to work at Many Friends, which is a kiosk at our local mall that sells pets. We specialize in turtles, iguanas, and other types of lizards. We can also get spiders, but we have to special order them. This is the first job that I have ever had that I really enjoy. I’m the only employee in addition to the owner, and I plan to buy part of the business from him at some point. We also have tenative plans to branch out into other busines s in the future. We may open a toy business closer to Christmas-time.
In the realm of politics, I am still involved locally. I have been working with Kevin Christian’s campaign this month. If he wins the primary, I’ll work with his campaign from now until the general election in November. He is running against several other republicans to replace Bob Hunter, Abilene’s longtime State Rep. Kevin was Bob’s chief of staff, so he has the experience we need in Austin, and he is a family values type of guy. He’s also very smart, and freindly. So if you live in the 71st district of Texas, go vote for Kevin. And remember our Govenor Rick Perry, and our Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, and of course our Congressmen Randy Neugebauer.
My mom recently got married to a really nice guy named Walter Harper. He is a doctor who has lived in Michigan for quite some time, but he actually grew up in Abilene and went to school at ACU. They are building a new house out in the boondocks, but until its finished they are renting a house off Buffalo Gap Road.
Of course mom moved out of our old house, and I’m living there with my two brothers and a roomate that is a freind of Ben’s. We get along together most of the time, but I have learned not to bring up politics in this house. It is a little depressing that nobody here really agrees with me, but I make the best of it. It is nice to be able to see my brothers around though. We also have an iguana and two turtles that live with us. The turtles are mine, and the iguana belongs to Zac. Occasionally we have a dog named Jimmy around when Walter and Mom are out of town.
The last few years my spiritual life has been suffering, but last month I re-dedicated my life to Jesus. Since then, my spiritual life has been much better than I can ever remember. During this time, God has given me a little of his amazing power to resist certain temptations, and as a result, I have been walking much closer to him. I can’t remember the last time I was this happy. Please keep me in your prayers, friends.
Our church is doing a class called Financial Peace University that I’m taking part in. It’s a curriculim developed by the nationally syndicated radio talk show host Dave Ramsey. I have heard great things about this series, and I am really looking forward to it. What I want most ouf of this class is to learn how to manage money wisely, get out of debt, and invest. I have been slowly paying off debt for the last few months, but I still have a ways to go.
