There is a small minority of folks who still don’t, or won’t, believe that the mainstream media is baised against conservatives. In fact, some liberals say that media outlets like ABC, NBC, and CBS are baised in favor of conservatives. This is an absurd view, as suggested by several recent media polls, but the reason they say that is because the mainstream media usually refrains from reporting unsubstantiated conspiracy theories as fact. Well, there was that National Guard story that relied on fake documents, but I digress. The mainstream media does make sure to report every story that could make the Bush White House look bad, while ignoring stories that refelect positively on the White House or the Republican Party.

For instance, where are the stories about the thousands of new hospitals, schools, and businesses that have opened in Iraq? Where are the stories about the the many new TV and radio stations in Iraq, that would have been impossible in Saddam’s media controlled state? Where are the stories about our War Heroes? Where are the reports that unemployment is the lowest it has been for nearly 8 years? For the most part, these stories are largely ignored by the mainstream media. If they are reported at all, they will be mentioned on the top of the hour news update, and they will probably not be repeated. If the major newspapers bother to report these stories, they will most likely be found on the back page. And if you miss it, you miss it. They really don’t want you to remember it anyway, because it makes President Bush look good. But these stories are more prominently featured in small local newspapers around the country, you know, the ones that are not owned by the new york media conglomerates. These stories are also more prominently featured on balanced cable networks like Fox News, and talk radio programs.

So why does the mainstream press ignore these stories? Because they have an action line. The action line could be “Bush lied” or it could be “republicans are corrupt” or it could even be “republicans want to take away your social security”. The media has an action line to deal with just about any issue. Any story that backs up these positions are reported. Any story that conflict with the action line goes unreported, or gets pushed to the back page. Another reason the mainstream media ignores these stories is because these media outlets are located in the very most liberal cities in America. The journalists working for these outlets are liberals, and so are their friends. Many of them probably know very few, if any republicans. If they do know any republicans, they are probably liberal republicans. They think a large segment of the population hates Bush. They most certainly believe that almost all democrats do. But according to a recent zogby poll, only 6% of democrats want elected democrats to try to defeat republican bills. The other 94% think that the two parties should work together to try to craft the best legislation possible. That certainly does not suggest that most democrats hate Bush, or that they even hate republicans.
