Congress Off to Strong Start!
2/16/2005
The GOP is off to a strong legislative start this year! Bush’s second term has only just begun, and Congress has already passed two important peices of legisilation. The Senate passed a tort reform bill on Friday. I don’t think this will totally solve the problem of frivilous lawsuits, but it will end the problem of trial lawyers being able to shop around for judges that they think will be sympathetic to their clients. Moving the cases to federal courts is definitely a step in the right direction. The House also passed a bill on Friday that would make it tougher for immigrants to get drivers licenses. That’s wonderful news, considering that some of the 9/11 hijackers used drivers licenses to board the planes.
